On a quest for phyllo dough this evening, I was forced to peruse the wide variety of horrific processed foods available to us one and all. Here's a sampling: "Uncrustables" frozen peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich (sparing moms and dads the arduous task of assembling this complex children's classic), pancake & sausage on a stick (because who has time to eat pancakes off a plate?), and--my darling niece's favorite--Pizza Treatz: a plastic-encased ready-to-eat kidz meal kit that comes with some kind of Frisbee of cold dough, a packet of cold tomato sauce/ketchup, another packet of cold shavings of mozzarella-flavored cheese for sprinkling on top, and, the “pizza de resistance,” a few cold coins of “pepperoni-flavored sausage” (real pepperoni being, what, too precious for a young palate?).Don’t let the manufacturers sell your children this shit. Soylent Green is people!
