Michelle Obama spoke recently at the Democratic National Committee's Gay and Lesbian Leadership Council in favor of ensuring that gay couples in civil unions get federal benefits. She also spoke against the constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.You'll never hear Cindy "The Cookie Recipe Stealer" McCain take such a stance. Certainly Laura "The Goose Egg" Bush would not have (that would have made her look as if she had an opinion other than "Books are good! I like books--especially children's books! See, I can even hold one right-side up!").
Michelle's handlers have already begun trying to mold her into something palatable to average Americans, and these are, after all, people who like nothing better than a doublemeat Whopper with extra cheese and a jumbo sack of Cool Ranch Doritos, washed down by half a gallon of cherry cola and, for dessert, a super-sized cellophane-wrapped slab of fried, corn-syrup-infused dough with a six-year shelf life. But if this is the "digestible" version of Michelle Obama, then you gotta dig her.
